Fake it this summer

Fake tan let’s face it, is one of those things that can go either one of two ways, gorgeous summer glow or the orange perma tanned umpa lumpa look that certain celebrities such as Katie Price and Paris Hilton are often seen sporting. However with all the new fake tan products which are now available and fail safe tips there should be no excuse to look like them.

Preparation

Before you apply your fake tan there are a couple of things you should do first to help keep it streak free. Firstly exfoliate all over, this prepares the top layer of skin and allows the tan to develop evenly, concentrating on on areas prone to dry skin such as heels, elbows and knees, at least 24 hours before hand. It’s also worth waxing two days prior to tanning for a flawless tan. You also need to make sure you remove moisturiser, deodorant and make-up from your skin before applying fake tan, as this can block the skin and create an uneven look. Also if you cover areas such as toe nails and eyebrows in moisturiser or Vaseline, it will stop those areas from becoming stained.

Application

To stop the tell tale sign that you have applied fake tan, use a tanning mitt to stop your hands getting covered in excess fake tan, the mitts are great for blending in your tan including a spray fake tan and they also provide a smooth professional finish. If you don’t use a mitt or glove then make sure you wash your hands immediately after application to reduce the amount left on your hands that can stain. To remove any excess tan from between your toes and fingers rub a face wipe to remove excess.  It’s important to remember to wait until you are completely dry before getting dressed and wear loose fitting clothes whilst your tan is developing, most take a couple of hours.
