Levitra – The facts

Posted by Matthew | Health,medications,Men,Sexual health | Friday 25 November 2011 4:58 pm

Levitra is a treatment for erectile dysfunction, they come in tablet form or orodispersible and they contain the active ingredient Vardenafil. Vardenafil is a phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitor and it prevents the action of a chemical in the body called phosphodiesterase type 5. Levitra like other medicines can be sought from your GP however you can buy Levitra online from a reputable seller.

Erections are gained when signals from the nervous system and chemical messengers are released within the tissues of the penis; one of the chemical messengers is called cyclic GMP. Cyclic GMP is what causes the blood vessels in the penis to widen and allow more blood to enter the penis, making it hard and erect.

However Cyclic GMP is normally broken down by another chemical in the body called phosphodiesterase type 5. Which as previously mention what Vardenafil prevents so Cyclic GMP is not broken down which results in the blood vessels are kept dilated for longer, improving blood flow to the penis and maintaining an erection.

You can Levitra with our without food, however it’s not recommended that you take it with a meal which is high in fat because this could delay the onset, all tablets should also be swallowed whole. You should take the tablets 25 to 60 minutes before sexual activity. The orodispersible tablet which melts on the tongue should be taken approximately 60 minutes before sexual activity because they can take longer to work.

There are some things you need to be aware of before taking the tablets and some side effects can be caused: You shouldn’t take Levitra and drink grapefruit juice because it may increase the level of this medicine in your blood and increase the risk of side effects. Also if your erection lasts longer than four hours (priapism), consult a doctor immediately, treatment should not be delayed as it could cause damage to erectile tissue in the penis.

There are some other cautions to those taking this medicine:

Elderly men
Disease involving the heart and blood vessels (cardiovascular disease)
Obstruction of blood flow out of the heart, e.g. due to narrowing of the aorta (aortic stenosis)
Abnormal heart rhythm seen on a heart monitoring trace (ECG) as a ‘prolonged QT interval’
Low blood potassium levels (hypokalaemia).
Bleeding disorders, e.g. haemophilia
Active peptic ulcer
Physical abnormality of the penis, such as severe curvature, scarring or Peronei’s disease
Conditions such as sickle cell disease, bone cancer or leukaemia in which there is an increased risk of prolonged erections (priapism)

Anyone who has had a heart attack in the last six months, a stroke in the last six months or anyone who has severe heart failure should not take Levitra. It also shouldn’t be taken by women, children or adolescents under 18 years of age or anyone who has been advised against any form of sexual activity such as someone who has severe heart disorders such as unstable angina.

As mentioned earlier you should also make sure you buy Levitra online from reputable sellers or get them from your GP. It’s also important to note you always should seek advice from a doctor before taking any kind of medicine, but especially treatments for erectile dysfunction. You also shouldn’t take any more than one treatment for erectile dysfunction at any one time.

Convenient erectile dysfunction drug Levitra which is said to be the first and only orodispersible tablet for impotence, has been approved by Scotland’s medical watchdog. The drug which dissolves on the tongue without the need for a glass of water could help some of the estimated 2.3 million men who are suffering from erectile dysfunction in the UK.

According to market research at the moment one in ten men suffering from erectile dysfunction (ED) seek treatment; it’s thought the better availability of the easy to take drug could improve the amount of men finding relief from ED. Currently you can buy Levitra online from a reputable online pharmacy, however with increased availability more men may look to seek treatment.

Levitra, the “melt-in-the-mouth” drug was approved by the European Commission in September 2010, it was launched in the UK in March of this year and has been approved by the Scottish Medicines Consortium (SMC) to be available for use through NHS Scotland. Levitra is much more discrete to take than other forms of ED medication, it comes in a slim credit-card pack which can easily be taken anywhere, plus you don’t need to take it with water.

Bayer who manufactures Levitra hope that it will revolutionise treatment for men too embarrassed to seek help for ED, the say the formulation “de-medicalises” and helps to remove the stigma attached to impotence.

Packs come with anti-counterfeiting safety measures to prevent internet websites selling fake versions of Levitra online and each 10mg dose costs £4.50.

Specialist practitioner in Andrology and Urology at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary, Ian Russell, said: “This is really good news for Scottish men. We have been waiting for Levitra orodispersible to be licensed for a while and are relieved that it has finally been approved. We feel that it will be particularly advantageous for the younger patients with diabetes and other medical conditions causing erectile dysfunction who will appreciate its advantages the most.”

Fear not, you’re not alone, in fact twelve per cent of men suffer from premature ejaculation, in fact one of your mates probably does and like most men don’t talk about it.

A recent study by the Sexual Advice Association found that 12% of the adult male population reach climax too early during sex. For men this can be a very frustrating problem, but also for their partners too, putting strain on relationships and knocking your confidence as a man.

For men across the world, erection problems persist whether it is, being unable to sustain on or even getting one.  For those who suffer from premature ejaculation, you can buy prescription drugs such as Priligy online, with medical advice.

A study carried out by Dr. John Tomlinson showed that the average age for men suffering from premature ejaculation was 31-40 years and he found that men who were mostly from outside of the UK had ejaculation problems. The doctor found one of the main reasons for premature ejaculation in a majority of men was hasty masturbation in adolescence.

When it comes to buying any kind of medication online you should always seek advice from your doctor first and buy from a trusted and reputable seller.

Men’s health – Smoking and effectiveness in ‘the bedroom’

Posted by Matthew | Health News,Men,Sexual health | Sunday 18 September 2011 4:45 pm

According to research smoking can affect men in the bedroom department; men who successfully stopped smoking saw greater improvements in sexual health compared to men who relapsed during a programme designed to help men quit smoking.

So there is no better time to think about giving up if you are a man, Study author Christopher Harte from the VA Boston Healthcare System said: “The findings may provide a timely nudge for male smokers. With younger men, the risks of smoking in that population appear more far off. They think, “I don’t really need to worry about this until much farther down the road. Regardless of if this really does apply to all men who smoke or not (the goal was) just getting the word out that men could be aware of this finding, so it could influence their decisions to start the quitting process.”

65 men were enrolled by Harte and co-author Cindy Meston from the University of Texas at Austin, the men did not have self-reported impotence either and were put on a an eight-week quit smoking program using nicotine patches.

As part of the treatment the men were brought into a locked lab and shown a racy film, before, half way and a few weeks after treatment. Researchers kept track of how aroused they were and measurements were taken and the men taking part also filled out surveys about their general sexual health.

At the end of the study out of 65 men 20 of them had not lit up and 45 were still smoking, those which quit experienced greater sexual arousal and became excited more quickly compared to non-quitters. However at the moment they weren’t experiencing report better performance in the bedroom but scientists said it could take a while for improvements seen in the lab to translate into real-life.

‘It might take longer for men to actually notice their level of difference subjectively outside of the lab, which is also dependent on their relationship with their sexual partner,’ Harte said.

Erectile dysfunction drugs – Which is right for you?

Posted by Matthew | Health,Men,Sexual health | Monday 5 September 2011 11:35 am

When it comes to treating erectile dysfunction through medication you have two options you can either take the probably the most famous drug; Viagra (the little blue pill) or Cialis. Both drugs pretty much work in the same way however there are a couple of small differences such as side effects which can vary in all men who take them.

It’s simple to buy Cialis online as well as Viagra but with both you should seek medical advice from your doctor first. You may find one of the ED drugs will be more suitable to your health need than the other however many men like to try both drugs first if they can before deciding which is best. Both Viagra and Cialis work by increasing the flow of blood to the penis so you can achieve an erection after ingestion, with erections lasting around 30 minutes.  One of the main differences between Viagra vs. Cialis is that while Viagra will work up to 4 hours after ingestion Cialis will actually last 36 hours, which is probably called the ‘weekender’.

Both have some restrictions of who can and can’t take them such as men with a high risk of heart attack or stroke, or by men taking certain medications, including those for angina or hypertension. Both also have similar side effects such as back pain and muscle aches however a lot of men have reported there being less side effects with Cialis than Viagra. If you want to take Cialis or Viagra you have to make sure you buy from reputable suppliers, whether buying Cialis or buying Viagra online you need to be 100% sure that you are getting the real thing, counterfeit drugs can be extremely bad for your health and can even kill you.

Levitra – How it works

Posted by Matthew | medications,Men,Sexual health | Saturday 20 August 2011 4:00 pm

Levitra is a virility drug which is used to treat sexual dysfunction; it hasn’t been around as long as Viagra, however it can be just as effective, with them both working in the same way. Levitra is also known as Vardenafil and like Viagra is called a phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitor.

How dose Levitra work?

As we have discussed before there is a complex chain of events that take place before an erection which involves signals from the nervous system and the release of chemical messengers within the tissues of the penis. An important chemical messenger that gets released is cyclic GMP, which causes blood vessels in the penis to widen which allows extra blood to enter the penis.

Unfortunately cyclic GMP is can be broken down by another chemical in the body; phosphodiesterase type 5, which is what can cause erectile dysfunction in some men. Levitra works to stop phosphodiesterase type 5 breaking down cyclic GMP allowing the blood vessels to stay open and making you able to maintain an erection for longer.

Taking Levitra what to do

Like all medication you should always seek advice from a doctor first as well as making sure you buy from reputable sellers. You can take Levitra with or without food and it takes around 25 minutes to one hour to work before intercourse and it may also produce an erection with stimulation for up to five hours after taking. You are warned not to drink grapefruit juice whilst taking this medication due to adverse side effects. You should also make sure you that you don’t take more than one does of this medicine a day as well as being aware that it can cause side effects such as dizziness and visual disturbances.

Anti-HIV drug made by GM plants begins trials in humans

Posted by Matthew | medications,Sexual health,Treatments | Sunday 7 August 2011 4:12 pm

An antiviral drug manufactured created from genetically modified plants is being tested on a controlled number of women throughout the UK, testing its safety.

The people behind the creation of the drug hope that it can prevent HIV infection; however, the main discovery is that the findings demonstrate that it is possible to be produced cheaply in plants and meet high standards needed for the use of the drug by humans.

UK licensing body, have already approved the trials and is set to be taking place in Guildford.

‘Pharma-Planta’ is a project which was launched seven years ago with an aim to produce drugs via GM plants and cut the overall cost of drugs. Scientists’ aim to increase the availability of these drugs in the poorer countries of the world.

Access to such medicines in the LEDCS is highly limited. TheWorld Health Organization estimates a huge 23 million infants worldwide are not receiving basic immunisation meaning 1.7 million children under the age of five die from vaccine-preventable diseases.

Most medicines are created at great expense with bacteria or mammalian cells. This is what makes Pharma-Planta highly successful. The anti-HIV antibody was created using GM tobacco plants grown in soil in greenhouses in Germany; The plants were ready to harvest after  a mere 45 days their leaves were shredded and “highly purified antibodies” were extracted. The plants also have little risk of the plants contaminating other crops because they are contained and are not grown on a agricultural scale.

Eleven healthy women have volunteered to take part in the drugs trial. Two of these women have been given the antibody so far, with a further woman been given a placebo. The purpose of the test is to demonstrate the safety of the antibody (named P2G12) at different dosages.

Much bigger trials will be carried out in women at risk of contracting testing to confirm whether the anti-body does prevent HIV.

This process is between 10 and 100 times cheaper than other conventional production systems and could offer a way to produce cheap drug versions, just as affective, available in poorer countries.

Viagra – How it works

Posted by Matthew | medications,Men,Sexual health,Treatments | Sunday 24 July 2011 4:07 pm

It’s been around for a while now, since 1998 and is one of the best known drugs available it’s much joked about and has become a permanent feature of the pop culture landscape, thanks to high profile spokesmen.

How does Viagra work?

Well when taken correctly the ‘little blue pill’ as it’s also known basically works by blocking PDE5. What is a PDE5 I hear you say? PED5 is an enzyme found primarily in the penis and is a cause of erectile dysfunction and this enzyme is normally responsible for reversing an erection. Scientists don’t know how it is produced in the body or why but they do know how to block it. When Viagra is taken it blocks PDE5 and more of the chemicals responsible for the erection remain so then with stimulation an erection can be gained. An erection cannot be gained when taking Viagra unless the penis stimulated.

How long does it take for Viagra to work?

Viagra begins to work after about 15 minutes of been taken, however many men find that it takes about half an hour, it all depends on the individual. It also lasts around four hours, but on average the response decreases after about two hours.

There is also a huge market for counterfeit Viagra drugs so it’s always advisable to speak to your doctor first and buy from a reputable supplier.

Increase in STD’s for men who take Viagra and Cialis

Posted by Matthew | Health,Health News,HIV/AIDS,medications,Men,Sexual health,Treatments | Wednesday 15 June 2011 11:23 am

A recent study by Harvard University found that men taking drugs to treat erectile dysfunction showed triple the rate of sexually transmitted diseases compared with those not taking the drugs, Viagra and Cialis.

The results of the study came from an analysis of the health insurance claims of men who were aged forty and older. It’s thought that the reason for an increase in STD’s in this group of men and is more to do with attitude than the actual drugs themselves. Some men may be taking a less cautious path when it comes to their sexual experiences when taking ED medication.

According to analysis the higher rate of infections were seen a year after the men started taking the drugs like Viagra, Cialis and also Levitra to treat ED, which has lead experts to believe that men taking the drugs may be more likely to engage in unsafe sex than nonusers. The leader of the study Anupam Jena said: “Younger people have more sex partners than older folks. But per sexual encounter, the actual safeness of the sex is probably lower among older folks in the sense that they don’t use condoms.”

Currently in the US there are about 19 million new sexually spread infections occurring each year, with almost half of them aged 15 to 24 years old. However people aged 30 to 40 accounted for the largest proportion of those who were newly diagnosed with sexually transmitted infections, which included a high proportion of HIV/AIDS cases.
