Summer hair

Posted by Matthew | Beauty, Hair | Friday 25 June 2010 11:53 am

Summer hair is all about texture and volume this year and a good thing to keep in mind when you’re on holiday. You want your hair to look effortless and easy especially when away, and the beach babe styles just that. You can easily get the summer looks for your locks with your ghd hair straightners, adding the right products will then finish it off.

As the weather is hotter your hair is more prone to damage, so remember when blow drying or styling your hair to use a thermal protector spray to prevent damage, to get the extra volume into your hair when blow-drying use a round barrelled brush and pull out from the roots.

Once you have created some volume you can now use your ghd straighteners a number of different ways to get some curls or waves into your hair, either:

Section your hair in to 4, then with the back left section take all the hair and twist it together, then run your ghd straighteners over the twisted hair and clip back up, repeat this with the other 3 sections. Once it’s cool remove the clips and shake through spritzing with ghd sea spray to give a matt texture to your hair.

Create curls with your hair by sectioning off your hair and insert your hair straightners vertically at the roots, holding the ends of the hair with your free hand. Turn the styler around 180 degrees, gently and slowly pulling it down the hair lengths until you reach the ends. Then hold the look in place with hairspray.

Summer feet – Part 2

Posted by Matthew | Beauty | Monday 21 June 2010 9:45 am

Once your feet are starting to recover from the long winter, you need to make sure your nails look pretty, get them into shape by filing them in a straight line with a good quality metal file, emery boards can tear you nails so they are best avoided. The length of your nails should be no shorter than the natural ridge under your nail, its recommended that you don’t use clippers as it’s harder to control the length, and can put the nail under too much pressure causing white marks and splitting.

As with your finger nails you need to make sure your cuticles don’t grow too long as this can impede nail growth, instead use a cuticle cream or oil and push them back. If over the winter you have had dark nail varnish on and its left a stain on your nail, or you have applied fake tan and that has left a mark then all you need to do to remove these unsightly stains is to buff your nails, this will remove the layer of stain on top of your nails as well as increasing blood flow and leaving your nails nice and shiny.

Your well groomed toes painted in a strong colour will draw the eye away from imperfections, otherwise you can always opt for a neutral top coast if you have a good nail colour or go for a French pedicure finish. Because its summer it’s a great time to start experimenting with colour, if you’re not that brave just add some funky colours to your toes and keep your hands neutral, remembering to apply a nourishing base coat and reapply the top coat every couple of days for longevity.

Summer feet – Part 1

After a long winter of you feet being wrapped up in socks and trapped in boots they probably are not looking their best so now at the first hint of sunshine we expect them to look smooth and sexy in summer shoes, when in reality they will most probably be the opposite.

But all is not lost, there are a couple of simple things to do to get your feet summer ready, firstly at the beginning of the summer get a really good pedicure to start your feet off, your feet will need smoothing, soothing and your toes will need buffing and polishing. Once you have treated your feet to a pedicure its then up to you to keep up appearances, with a bit of work they will be perfect all summer long.

You shouldn’t be embarrassed by foot problems such as verrucas, nail infections and athlete’s foot and keep the covered all summer as the problems never go away instead visit your doctor to get them treated. If you’re worried by the state of your nails fear not badly broken or chipped nails can be repaired with nail extensions, however you don’t need a full set on your toes because you don’t need length.

Dry patches of skin can also be another common problem you need a good nail file to keep rough, dry and dead skin at bay as well as making sure you properly moisturise your feet because the skin on your feet is much harder than on your hands and it needs a rich hydrating moisturiser. Also because you’re on your feet all day they will also benefit from one that contain Vitamin E which is key for feet as it has restorative properties while peppermint will refresh.

For extra soft feet, twice a week before you go to bed slather them in moisturiser and sleep with your socks on.

Shiny, sleek and straight hair

For super sleek hair this summer all you need is your ghd hair straighteners, this super soft, shiny look is easy to achieve and a great look for a glam night out.

To get super sleek hair that looks healthy you need to use ghd thermal protector whilst blow drying your hair, to protect it from the damage caused by the heat and you will find it will also reduce frizz.

1. Firstly you need to section off your hair, this make sure you get all of your hair so there are no little kinks. To do this, place your thumbs above your ears and draw a line around your head until your thumbs meet at the back. Gather the hair above your thumbs and pin it out of the way.

2. Now getting sleek hair is all in the technique, place your hair straighteners and brush in at the root area and glide towards the end of the hair, with your brush following. Don’t rush take your time to make sure you get a smooth finish, when you reach the ends of your hair roll the end of your hair under the brush to give you volume and a bevelled effect.

3. Repeat this for all sections of your hair and when finished lightly mist with ghd reflection spray to give it a glass like effect.

Country girl chic

At Chanel’s spring/summer 2010 show country girl was a huge hit, the collection featured traditional fabrics such as tweed, patchwork and sued mixed in with delicate chiffon and delicate detailing. The hairstyles also followed suit with many easy to recreate with ghd hair straighteners and some added ribbon.

Undone up-do’s were the stars of the show with simple twists and twirls reaching up the back of the head, glossy curls tumbling down and ribbon plaited into hair. To get the up-do look at home work ghd serum into the hair from root to tip to create softness and shine then work into a high bun pulling out a few small strands of hair and spray into place.

Fake it this summer

Posted by Matthew | Beauty, Women | Monday 17 May 2010 1:39 pm

Fake tan let’s face it, is one of those things that can go either one of two ways, gorgeous summer glow or the orange perma tanned umpa lumpa look that certain celebrities such as Katie Price and Paris Hilton are often seen sporting. However with all the new fake tan products which are now available and fail safe tips there should be no excuse to look like them.

Preparation

Before you apply your fake tan there are a couple of things you should do first to help keep it streak free. Firstly exfoliate all over, this prepares the top layer of skin and allows the tan to develop evenly, concentrating on on areas prone to dry skin such as heels, elbows and knees, at least 24 hours before hand. It’s also worth waxing two days prior to tanning for a flawless tan. You also need to make sure you remove moisturiser, deodorant and make-up from your skin before applying fake tan, as this can block the skin and create an uneven look. Also if you cover areas such as toe nails and eyebrows in moisturiser or Vaseline, it will stop those areas from becoming stained.

Application

To stop the tell tale sign that you have applied fake tan, use a tanning mitt to stop your hands getting covered in excess fake tan, the mitts are great for blending in your tan including a spray fake tan and they also provide a smooth professional finish. If you don’t use a mitt or glove then make sure you wash your hands immediately after application to reduce the amount left on your hands that can stain. To remove any excess tan from between your toes and fingers rub a face wipe to remove excess.  It’s important to remember to wait until you are completely dry before getting dressed and wear loose fitting clothes whilst your tan is developing, most take a couple of hours.

Specialist treatments

It is though that traditional Thai massage found at a Thai massage London spa originated from India before it made its way into Thailand where the Ayurvedic techniques and principles gradually became influenced by traditional Chinese medicine and for centuries, Thai massage was performed by monks as one component of Thai medicine. What is clear though is that the treatment at the Thai massage London spa will be more energizing and rigorous than the more classic forms of massage and there are many Thai London massage centres where you can relieve those stresses of work and travel through the capital. Often referred to as Thai yoga massage, this is because the therapist uses his or her hands, knees, legs, and feet to move you into a series of yoga-like stretches; for many, Thai massage is just like doing yoga without any work!

Before you decide upon a Thai massage London spa you should be aware that Thai massage is usually done on a padded mat on the floor and no oil is applied, so you are fully dressed. An example of how long you would be at your Thai massage London spa would be around 60 minutes to two hours, but you can be absolutely assured that it will relax you, reduce stress, improve your circulation, increase your energy, improve your range of motion, all in all you will feel a whole lot better after you have been to your Thai London massage spa.
